CANNON FINAL PICS

It's been another busy week at Goodwin Mill And Cabinet.  These are some final pics of the Cannon residence.  We went by to change some hinges and finishing some punch list items.  All of the hinges are now soft close.  For those of you who don't know, upgraded soft close hinges gently close your doors and drawers.  They take over and finish the job once you've closed it a portion of the way.  It also prevents slamming doors or other rough handling.  They're pretty cool and I think Cannon's will be happy they decided to upgrade.
The first two photos I will share are both of the library.  The first pic shows the bookcase.  They've already started filling the shelves, but I love that because you can see how functional and nice the shelves are.  The second pic shows the desk we built in and more shelves above in a two piece unit.  Put in a small rubber mat and a chair and you'll have an excellent computer area.
These next two pics are both of the guest bathroom.  As you can see, there's the vanity and a drawer unit, but there's also a taller cabinet attached to the base units. This shelf unit is probably
for storing towels or even clothes.  You could also fill is with tissue or other cleaning products.  No matter what you fill it with, it was a great idea and I like the way it creates a step on the counter top.
The next pics I wanna show you are some of the Kitchen photos.  I took a lot of pics here, but the lighting was bad and most of them didn't turn out.  For example.  The first pic I took was of the island.  As you can see, it's very dark even with the natural light coming in through the window.
The next photo shows the full kitchen, however, like its counterpart, it's quite dark.  Still you can see how much different it is from the previous pics I've shown from this house.  Especially the hood.
Here's the center upper.  This corner cabinet is an upper lazy susan and you can also see the microwave shelf we added.  You get a good view of the uppers on either side of the corner cabinet.  You can also see some of the small appliances and boxes already loaded into the kitchen.
This pic shows the cabinet over the refrigerator.  The fridge was delivered fits perfectly in the space we built for it.  It's very handsome and the accented crown molding helps to bring out the darker colors of the appliances.  The fridge cabinet juts out a little more than the rest of the uppers.  It's also a little taller.  In the case of this kitchen, that helps out a lot with the additional hood top we added.  I'll show you that in the next pic.
Originally, the lower part of the hood was all we built.  The line was supposed to come out of the wall and into the back of the cabinet.  Unfortunately, when we delivered the job, the line was coming down from the ceiling and we needed to produce an additional piece to cover it.  We worried that covering the line all the way to the ceiling would through the alignment of the upper cabinets off and create a disproportionate look in the kitchen.  Fortunately, this didn't turn out to be the case.  The hood top looks quite regal and gives the upper bank a rich appearance.
This photo shows the interior of the Kitchen island.  I've got another pic of this unit further on, but I wanted to show the functional cabinets first and the shelf unit afterward.  By now, the granite counter top was installed so you can see how it blends with the finish on the cabinets.
Here's the corner below the lazy susan cabinet.  To the right you see the stove and to the left, there's the dishwasher.  That cabinet directly left of the stove is a spice cabinet.  The corner unit is a drawer unit.  An interesting location, but one that is aesthetically pleasing.
This bank of lower units is on the east wall.  The cabinet furthest right is the sink cabinet and sits next to the dishwasher.  The cabinet to the left of it is the trash bin.  It's a pull out trash cabinet!  These units are so cool.
Here's another addition we did to the Kitchen.  They needed a space for the microwave, but it wasn't included in the original plans.  We built this open back shelf to hold the microwave.
Here's another pic of the island cabinets.  This one sits on the south side of the island and is a basic shelf unit.  It's finished on the inside because it sits open and the shelves are also finished.  I thought this was a great addition to the look of the island.  You don't see open shelf units like this very often, but when you do, they always provide a wonderful variation that helps create a unique look.
These two sets of uppers are to the left of the east window above the sink.  Sadly, I wasn't able to get a good shot of them.  It was raining on the day I took these.  But when I tried to catch the pics, the sun came out and just dazzled the interior of the house.
The final pic from Cannons is the master bathroom.  This double sink bank looks amazing with the counter top in place.  I love the way the granite and tile came together to create a blended color throughout the entire room.
Last week, Goodwin Mill And Cabinet, also delivered and installed a job in the Dixie Springs area for Rock Solid!  For those of you who follow my tweets, you'll know all about this because I tweeted the progress of the job all day.
I also posted some pics of the cabinets after we delivered them on our Facebook page.  For the sake of continuity, I decided to post them here as well and give you the chance to see them.
We hauled all the cabinets into the main area adjacent to the Kitchen and set them there first.  Then we started moving them into position.  The second pic shows the cabinets I'd moved into the master bath.  They're set up and ready to be installed.
This final pic shows the upper cabinets in the Kitchen staged and ready to go up.  We usually start in a corner and work our way out.  But all the uppers are laid out before we set the first one.

So that's about it right now.  We're already assembling two more jobs and getting ready to deliver as quickly as possible.  We should have another Rock Solid job delivered and installed before the week is out as well as a couple smaller jobs.  Goodwin Mill And Cabinet is moving right along, but we've got plenty of time to add your work to our schedule.  Call today and set up your appointment to design your cabinet layout!  Then, choose Goodwin Mill And Cabinet to build your cabinets!  We're ready to go to work!

ROCK SOLID DIXIE SPRINGS JOB #1

Once again Goodwin Mill And Cabinet has teamed up with Rock Solid to create another masterpiece in the Dixie Springs community!  This little home is absolutely gorgeous as the pics will demonstrate.  I'm gonna start this gallery in the Kitchen.  This first pic is of the lower cabinets sitting right in the corner angle of the kitchen layout.  There's a drawer bank on the right and a shelf unit on the left.  That center cabinet is a Lazy Susan.
The second pic shows the uppers in the same corner. The center cabinet is the interesting piece here.  It's flanked on both sides by two shelf units.  This is a great set of cabinets and those can lights really help to accent the stain color.
Here's a wide angle shot to give you a better idea of what the kitchen layout looks like.  There's a south wall and an east wall with cabinets.  The south wall has the opening for an oven and microwave hood. The east wall has an opening for the fridge.
This lower is a shelf unit with two drawers up top.  It's also to the right of where the cooktop oven will sit.  The area to the right of it will be the dining area for the entire home.

The uppers on the south wall are all shelf units.  You can see the space for the microwave hood.  If you notice, the tile backsplash also ends with the uppers and continues on with regular painted walls.  It's quite lovely.  They picked a very subtle paint and it helps the backsplash stand out.  The counter top also possesses a soft tone that brightens the wood.

I wanted to point out to you that this is not a shelf unit.  This is the entrance to a hidden pantry.  It seems these concealed pantries are all the rage right now.  These panels are awesome when they're done and really give you a sense of grandeur in a kitchen.  These cabinets look like pantries unto themselves.  Imagine the surprise you would feel opening this cabinet and finding a room with shelves and all kinds of food storage...

Here's a wide shot of the whole East wall.  You can see the upper over the space where the fridge will be and the finished panels on both sides of it.  You also get a side view of the Pantry door.  The next two pics are of the island.  The first one

Yep, here's the island.  We'll be seeing if from two sides.  This first view shows it from the inside and you can clearly see the space for the dishwasher.  The sink is also part of the island.
The outside of the island looks a little different in color mainly because the sources of natural light change drastically from one angle to the next.  It was impossible to preserve the golden look of the kitchen in this photo.  Too much natural light.
This is the full kitchen as seen from the Living or Great Room.  You can see the tile floors, those delightful hanging lights and the backsplash.  It's not the biggest kitchen we've done, but it is a great one!

Here's the master bath.  I'm actually including two pics even though there's only one combined unit.  I'm just showing it from both vantage points.  I think the tile is the same as from the Kitchen.  The counter top is the same color as well.
This double vanity is the only cabinetry in this room.  Sometimes we do uppers on the side with a valance, but this is all the buyers wanted so it's what we did.  I love these side by side vanities.  I think they're awesome!
The powder room or guest bath has this simple vanity.  There's a sink and a drawer bank.  I should've posted a pic of the entire bathroom because it's very nice!  For a second bathroom, it's done well.  Rock Solid does great work folks!
These last three pics are all of the Utility room.  This room has a folding table and then a base cabinet with an upper above it.  Directly right is where the washer and dryer will go.  This pic shows the base unit by itself.  The upper is directly over it, but I wanted to showcase the cabinets individually.  These units all feature tile counter tops.  The base unit here is a shelf unit with a drawer at the top.
This is the folding area directly across from the base cabinet.  It's a row of three shelf units with a tile counter top.  It's a great idea!  I've seen counter space in laundry areas before but nothing quite like this piece.  It's a great idea to have a space like this.
Here's the Utility room upper.  It's a basic shelf unit with finished sides.  There's not a lot of custom work in this room, but it looks great!

NEW CLIFFS JOB

At Goodwin Mill And Cabinet nothing is standing still.  In fact, things are moving forward at an alarming pace.  The next job I'm going to profile here is the Porter home up in the Cliffs subdivision.
The builder is a gentleman named Tad Porter of Porter Custom Homes.  We've done work for him before and enjoy his professionalism!  He's a great contractor.  I'll try to find a link to his website and include it.
Before I start showcasing our work in this home, I wanted to give you an idea what the house and area were like.  The first two pics show the incredible custom wood beam ceilings.  We did not do the ceiling beams in this home.  I'm not sure who to give the credit to, but I think they are interesting and I wanted to show them because I think it helps you get a feeling for the taste and style of the owners of this home.  Personally, I think they are just marvelous!  It's made me think about different things we could do with our custom ceilings.  If I can find out who did the beams, I will include a link if they have a site.  Check back for an update.
The next few pics attempt to show you what this house enjoys for a view.  You get great views of the incredible red rock mountains surrounding the area.  The lots themselves sit at the base of a range of these red cliffs.  Hence the name, "The Cliffs".
You can see another house being built across the street.  This lets you know how popular the area is.  Everyone wants to live there.  The third pic is taken directly from the garage where one might be standing if you were walking out to the driveway.  Isn't that incredible?

This next pic is a sneak preview of sorts.  This odd looking ceiling actually mirrors an island we're putting below it.  It's also a peek at the cabinets already up in the kitchen.  The color for this house is Antique Mahogany.  The island will actually be Green Grasses, but the majority of the cabinetry is the Antique Mahogany.
The final pic in this entry is of the exterior entryway.  As you can see, the custom ceiling treatment is done out here as well.  It adds a touch of rustic charm to the home and even though this type of addition is often highly associated with a southwestern look, the home manages to keep clean, modern lines and achieves a strong sense of space and balance.  I absolutely love it!
I hope you're looking forward to seeing some of the incredible cabinetry Goodwin Mill And Cabinet has created for this home.  I'm excited to show them to you.  But we must have patience and you must wait another day until I can post a detailed entry on this house.  Until then, call Goodwin Mill And Cabinet today to set up your appointment to create your dream kitchen!

CHENEY HOME

We just finished a job for a local builder we work with.  If you think back to the Parade of Homes this year, you might recall we worked out in Dixie Springs with a company named Rock Solid Builders.

James Cheney is our contact with Rock Solid and this house belongs to him and his family.  With their permission, I'm going to show you some pics of their cabinets.  The first pic shows the uppers in the kitchen.  The right hand wall.  That cabinet furthest to the right has glass doors and is a showcase cabinet.  Perfect for china or wine glasses you want to show off.
The range hood sits in the middle of these uppers.  The regular cabinets are Burnt Almond color while the hood and the island are the Creme color I love so much.
The first three pics pan around and show you the uppers while the fourth shows you the island and more of the Creme color stain.  The fifth pic shows the drawers under the final leftmost cabinet.
This photo shows the base cabinets along the right wall.  It also shows the lazy susan in the corner.  I wanted you to see how it flows together.
And here we have the other side of the island.  You can see the drawer bank on the other side of the dishwasher and the other cabinets.
This next pic shows the vanity and drawer bank in the powder room.  This cabinet was stained almost black.  It's the third of four stain colors in the home and it's the only cabinet to feature this stain.
There's another bathroom aside from the master bath.  This one services the two bedrooms and is the Burnt Almond color.  An interesting feature of this vanity is the reverse drawer we installed.  It will pull out bottom up as you can see in the pic.  It's purpose is for the kids to stand on so they can reach the sink.
These next two pics are the master bath.  We did a row of lowers and two corner cabinets with a valance between them.  We originally planned on having three drawer banks.
However, that wasn't possible with the way the wall sits, so the drawer bank furthest right and closest to the camera is actually a shelf unity with a door shaped like drawer fronts.
Here's the laundry room.  They went with a fourth color...  An almost White Wash.  With the distressing on the cabinet, it's very intense and quite beautiful.
These first two pics show the right hand wall.  The uppers; ending in a full length wall unit; and a row of pull out hamper drawers in the lowers.
On the left wall we did a shelf unit with drawers.  It sits to the right of the dryer.  And directly above it you will see the next photograph.
There's the one upper and then there's a clothing rod suspended between two uppers.  Then you have the uppers running all the way along the wall until the doorway.
Each one of these uppers has two shelves inside.  Adding it all up, you can see there's lots of storage space in this Laundry.  The right hand side pull out hampers are quite nice but also help to sort out colors whites, delicates etc. etc. when you're actually doing your washing.
This final photo shows the vanity to the left of the washer.  Although you can't see them in these pics, James actually laid a tile countertop in the Laundry.  It turned out extremely well.  I'll try to get more pics if I get in there again.  Otherwise, you'll just have to be satisfied with what I've taken here.

In the end, the Cheney's made choices that were complementary and delightful.  The creme juxtaposed with the Burnt Almond was a super smart idea.  It's not the first time we've used alternating colors in a kitchen, and it's not the most extreme difference in coloring.  Rather, they look good together and compliment each other in a way that demonstrates excellent taste and design ability.

Using other colors in bathrooms and in the Laundry room might seem excessive, but the choices were both subtle and complimentary again.  The whole house pulls together from the kitchen to the master bath.  There's a friendly, welcoming feeling as you look at the cabinets.  This house gets a lot of natural light.  The windows take full advantage of it and it suffuses everything from flooring to wall paint, cabinetry to granite counter tops...  Depending on what time of day you're actually in the home, the colors scheme will change.  In the morning you may get the darker tones really accentuating the lighter colors; whereas in the afternoon, the gold in the wall glaze or the granite can really pull the colors forward and blend them dramatically.  In the evening, the softer hue of artificial light will pull all the starkness away leaving the colors looking like a warm painting.  You can tell the Cheney's were doing something that would work with the light they were bringing in and I think they've done it.

This really is an example of how Goodwin Mill & Cabinet can help someone with an idea.  The Cheney's had a pretty good idea of what they wanted and Chris helped them bring it to life.  Go to their website and learn how you can bring your imagination to life at Goodwin Mill & Cabinet.
